"THE GREEN HILLS OF AFRICA"

Underground Springs that filter down from Ngorongoro highlands keep this park green throughout the year. Mahogany, Sausages and Croton trees are alive with blue monkeys and Vervets. Elephants are commonly seen in small herds, they are Capable of Consuming up to 400 kg of food each day. Manyara is an ideal location for them as it has an abundance of tree and Plant life.

What to see

Bushbuck, waterbuck, Baboons, Aardvark, Civet, the shy pangolin and Leopard, Buffalo, Hippo, Giraffe, Impala, Zebra and the famous tree Climbing Lions. There are huge flocks of flamingoes. There are Hot Springs within the park. Tree Climbing pythons. The park is a Sanctuary to over 400 species of bird including pelicon, Storks, Sacred ibis, Cormorants, and Egyption geese.

Best time to visit
JUNE - SEPTEMBER
JANUARY - FEBRUARY

Size

330sq km (about 205 sq miles), of which about 200 sq km (about 125 sq miles) is lake.

Location

In northern Tanzania, 126 km ( about 80 miles) west of Arusha.

Getting there

A two hour drive, or half hour flight, from Arusha.

What to do

Canoeing, with plans for forest walks on the escarpment. Cultural tours, bike tours and abseiling outside the park.

When to go

Dry season( July-October) for large mammals; wet season ( November-June) for bird watching, the waterfalls and canoeing.

Accomodation

One luxury tented camp, public bandas and campsites inside the park; 1 luxury tented camp and lodges perched on the Rift Wall; guesthouses and campsites in nearby town.,

LAKE MANYARA SERENA LODGE

Dramatically set on the Edge of the Eastern Rift Valley's Mto -wa - Mbu Escarpment, the lodge consists of sixty seven self-contained double rooms and it is situated 130km from Arusha.

LAKE MANYARA HOTEL

Build 1, 400m above sea level on the western Escarpment of the huge Rift Valley, the hotel overlooks the glassy lake of the Manyara National Park. The hotel has 100 comfortable
